Summer Basketball

If you have kids in high school you are well aware that once they play at a Varsity/JV level in sports, life is consumed with summer programs, camps and practices. If you are a frequent reader of this blog you might remember a post back a few months ago concerning the issues with coaches and high school sports. Well, Jessica decided that she would throw herself into the basketball program and if she is not chosen for Varsity this coming winter then it would NOT be because of a lack of enthusiasm and commitment on her part. She has picked up a part time job at McDonalds and plays basketball! goes to youth group and church and that is pretty much her life this summer.
About a week ago she had the amazing opportunity to go up to the Target Center in Minneapolis and play a game there with her fellow team mates! Then they stayed to watch a Minnesota Lynx game! The date of the game was June 26th, the day we were to leave for Desperation. Jessica agonized over the decision and in the end decided to follow through on inner vow to devote herself to her team and sport!
Randy texted me while he watched her shoot a three pointer! in the first few minutes of the game. A three pointer at the Target Center!!! Sparta won the game 45-44!! the girls were able to welcome the Lynx on the floor with hand slaps (probably a name for when they do that..) and it was an amazing experience for the whole team! But especially Jess. Who sacrificed something she had been looking forward to do...........in order to fulfill her commitment to her team.
No matter what the outcome of the Varsity roster come fall....I am proud of my girl for dedicating herself to the greater good.
